Terriers head for Preston North End with high ambitions

Championship: Preston North End v Huddersfield Town

By Ben Guzdek

Huddersfield Town travel to Lancashire to face Preston with both teams on either end of the Championship table.

Yorkshire side Huddersfield are in 3rd as they chase automatic promotion to the Premier League. Huddersfield recently suffered a home defeat to Sheffield Wednesday, which meant that they have gained just six points in four games.

The Terriers will look to German wonderman Elias Kachunga, 24, as he remains the top scorer in all competitions with only four. They have scored fourteen goals and conceded nine in the 12 games so far.

Wales goalkeeper Danny Ward hopes to start and is looking to return for first team action on his return to Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool at the end of his loan spell. Ward spoke to BBC Sport: “You have to strive and aim to be at the top and hopefully I can get there.”

Meanwhile, Preston North End have seven points in four games with wins against Aston Villa and Wigan Athletic. But their defence has struggled to keep clean sheets – they’ve conceded 16 goals so far.

English striker Jordan Hugill, 24, remains their top scorer with four goals in all competitions but it’s Simon Makienok, 25, who appears to be desperate to make an impact as he will battling for game-time.

The striker from Denmark appeared in the last ten minutes against Brighton and spoke to PNE Radio after the game and said: “I was happy with today, I wanted to make an impact when I came off the bench and I felt I did that.”

Commenting on his relationship with Hugill Simon said: “Jordan’s scored some great goals as well so there’s great competition and that’s what makes a good team.

“I haven’t played much in the league but it was nice to get a goal and to get some minutes under my belt.”
