Championship: Leeds United v Wigan Athletic
By Tom Wilson
Wigan will be hoping to rescue their poor start to the season in their visit to Elland Road. Meanwhile the home side will be looking to bounce back from their 1-0 defeat to Derby County.
It’s been a very up and down season for 13th placed Leeds so far. No team has fewer draws than Leeds, with only one tie from 12 matches this season. Wigan are positioned second from bottom after just one win from their previous ten competitive fixtures.
Wigan will be counting on Will Grigg to add to his tally of six goals this season. Chris Wood has been consistent for the Yorkshire side and will look to continue his form in front of goal, netting seven times this season.
The home side will have the option of returning right back Gaetano Berradi, after battling a hamstring problem.
Leeds know they will be without midfielders Liam Bridcutt and Stuart Dallas, who could have played an important part in achieving a fifth consecutive home win for United.
Wigan’s list of injuries includes Alex Gibey, Reece Burke and Donervon Daniels. Captain Craig Morgan may return to the bench after his return from injury against Burton.
Former Leeds left back Stephen Warnock has controlled the ball more than anyone else in the Championship this, with over 1,000 touches in Wigan’s campaign.
Latics boss Gary Caldwell told the BBC he’s ‘confident’ of extending Wigan’s three-match unbeaten run, despite the League One title holders finding themselves back in the Championship drop zone.
