Yarnbury 41-26 Hemsworth

Kennedy and Dodd double helps Yarnbury get a bonus point win over Hemsworth.

Yarnbury are now six points behind league leaders Wath Upon Dearne.

The start of the game didn’t go Yarnbury’s way, after a couple of scrappy line outs and scrums it was Hemsworth’s number eight Kieran Thornton who crashed through the Yarnbury line to score and it was winger Kyle Clarke to get the conversion. Minutes later Hemsworth were penalised in the ruck and it was Yarnbury’s outside centre Max Lee who would go for goal and his kick was successful as Yarnbury reduced Hemsworth’s lead. The men in yellow nearly had their first try when full back Max Kennedy showed great pace through the Hemsworth defence then he gave the ball to winger Alexander Lee who kicked the ball down the line, but it went dead. Eventually Yarnbury would get their first try of the match when big second row James Felgate bounced off the Hemsworth defence, he offloaded it to blindside flanker Samuel Dodd who scored Yarnbury’s first try under the posts and Max Lee was able to convert. Yarnbury wouldn’t have to wait long for their second try, after a tap and go from a penalty it was Dodd yet again who scored after some excellent forward work. Lee converted to extend Yarnbury’s lead. After a successful line out for Yarnbury the ball was passed inside to winger Joshua Bateson who found space to score under the posts and Lee’s conversion was successful. Hemsworth’s hooker Lee Taylor was penalised for being offside and would face a yellow card reducing Hemsworth to 14 men. Yarnbury took the advantage quickly and it was Max Kennedy to score Yarnbury’s bonus point try. Lee failed to convert so the score remained 29-7 to Yarnbury.  Hemsworth would respond after that try fest when blindside flanker David Bennion was able to stretch over to score and Clarke would be successful with the conversion. It would end at halftime Yarnbury 29 Hemsworth 14.

The start of the second half was tight until Max Kennedy was able to shrug off the Hemsworth defence as he would take off down the line to score the first try of the second half. Lee had a tough kick at goal as his conversion was missed.  Hemsworth nearly responded back with a try as inside centre Ben Frow went over the line but as he was about to put the ball down, he knocked it on. Hemsworth prop Adam Cooke was penalised for a cynical foul and he would face the sin bin, Hemsworth down a man again. Despite being a man down they would bounce back with a try when outside centre Dave Gorton was able to find space to score under the posts and Clarke would be successful with the conversion. It would seem Yarnbury were getting penalties left, right front, centre as they would easily score again when Felgate collided into the Hemsworth defence to score and Lee would convert. Hemsworth would be able to get their try bonus when flanker Charles Briscoe crashed over the line to score but Clarke would fail to convert.
