West Yorkshire Police has launched its campaign to prevent burglary during the Spring and Summer months.
More people will be spending time in their gardens with the onset of lighter evenings and warmer weather and police are urging home-owners to keep their home protected.
Police suggest that taking simple steps such as using burglar alarms, hiding keys and ensuring their valuables are stored away will help prevent home burglary.
Force Crime Prevention Officer Chris Joyce said: “It can take just 60 seconds for burglars to get into your home and steal your belongings, but this can be prevented by removing items they may look for.
“Crime prevention doesn’t need to cost huge sums of money. Simply locking your doors, shutting your windows and not leaving your valuables on display can make a great difference. These easy steps can significantly reduce your chances of being a victim of burglary.”
This follows yesterday’s police appeal urging Bradford motorists to lock their cars after a spate of robberies over the Easter weekend.
Detective Sergeant Graham Dyson, of Bradford District Police, said: “We would urge motorists to make sure their vehicle is locked when leaving it unattended.
“If you are going to use the remote central locking, then it is advised that you check the door handle to make sure it is secure.
“It is also a good idea to remove any valuables if you can or at least keep them out of sight, as they will appeal particularly to an opportunist thief who may just be walking past.”
Items including sat navs, phones, laptops and wallets were stolen from more than twenty unlocked vehicles in the Keithley, Shipley and Maningham areas.
