Brian Robinson is in hospital recovering from a broken collar bone after being knocked off his by near his Leeds home.
The record breaking cyclist is said to be stable and well in Pinderfields Hospital, Wakefield after his accident.
He was riding down Lees Hall Road, in Thornhill Lees, at 1.20 pm yesterday when the accident occurred.
His son-in-law, Martyn Bolt, said: “We don’t know how long he will be in hospital for, but we are hoping he will be back on his bike before too long.”
Mr Robinson made history in 1955 when he became the first British man to complete the Tour de France and again in 1958 when he became the first Brit to win a stage.
In total he has raced seven times in the Tour, his highest finish was in 1958 when he was 14th.
