Labour members in Leeds have backed veteran MP Jeremy Corbyn to become the party’s next leader.
A list published by The New Statesman states Constituency Labour Parties (CLPs) in Leeds East, Leeds North West and Leeds West are backing the Islington North MP to succeed Ed Miliband as Leader of the Opposition.
Corbyn, who is standing on an anti-austerity platform, leads the CLP nominations nationally with the backing of 109 local organisations to Andy Burnham’s 101.
Yorkshire MP Yvette Cooper has 87 and Liz Kendall trails with 14.
Although it has no direct impact, it demonstrates support is flooding to Corbyn, who was originally seen as an outsider in the contest.
Labour’s new leader will be announced at a special conference on Saturday, 12th September.
