Baby Yoda and baby tigers: 5 series you should binge watch during lockdown

By Jamie Heron

In a time when we’re all stuck inside for the majority of the day, I’m sure there is one thing we can all agree on – our televisions are our saviours. So grab your duvet and snacks and prepare for a long day on the couch as I list my top 5 series I’d recommend you to watch during the lockdown.

1 – Tiger King (Netflix UK)

The hype for Tiger King is impossible to miss. Memes and conspiracy theories have been spread all over the internet for the past month, centred around Joe Exotic’s flamboyant lifestyle as an exotic roadside zoo owner in the USA. Before watching I was sceptical, I’ve had a love-hate relationship with Netflix original documentaries but this series is phenomenal. Let’s just say at 6 pm last Thursday I dived into the series fairly blind and at 1 am on Friday I may as well have left my bedroom with a handlebar moustache and a mullet. The insane life of Joe Exotic is ridiculously addictive to watch.

2 – The Mandalorian (Disney+)

Disney+ is a brand new streaming service which arrived in the UK last month. It’s packed with Disney classics from animations to the Avengers and is currently costing around £5.99 a month. However, what caught my eye upon release was the new Star Wars series The Mandalorian. The Mandalorian is set 5 years before Return of the Jedi and follows the life of Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin. It is the first-ever live-action Star Wars series and the whole first season is available for streaming now. Also, Baby Yoda.

3 – Peaky Blinders (Netflix UK)

If you have not heard about Peaky Blinders yet you must have been on lockdown for the past 7 years! All 5 seasons are currently streaming on Netflix UK and if you can watch the whole thing through whilst resisting the temptation to buy a flat cap and a bottle of whisky I’d applaud you. But seriously, watch this. By order.

4 – Sex Education (Netflix UK)

Sex Education is a British based comedy-drama showcasing the life of a socially awkward teenager whose mother is a sex therapist. Although nursing his own problems within that area he manages to set himself up a business within the school working as a sexual advice coach. It’s probably the most Americanised representation of a British school which is humanely possible but it weirdly works very well. The first 2 seasons are streaming on Netflix.

5 – Ozark (Netflix UK)

Ozark is an American based crime-drama with 3 10-part series currently streaming on Netflix. It’s one of the boxsets that once you’ve watched a couple in a row it’s almost impossible to stop. The direction and cinematography is incredible. It’s got everything from money-laundering drug cartels to gangs & is probably my favourite series on Netflix right now.
