Today I headed down to York’s bustling Christmas market to explore the businesses involved during this festive season.
The markets this year have been running from the 14th of November and will be closing on the 22nd of December.
According to Visit York, the aim is to bring “festive cheer to the heart of the city”, which yes, it does amidst the influx in traffic jams both on the road and in the streets.
I wanted to find out if the markets gave the stall owners the exposure to obtain more success for their business, or if the markets are just the stereotypical gin and fudge fest gimmick.
I interviewed Andrew, a sales assistant for one of the festive cabin stalls and he implied that having a stall in the market was to expose the Yorkshire business to locals as well as the tourists from far and wide.
Andrew said “it is about exposing yourself as a business to the local public.
This event is to supplement and bring more local awareness that we are here in Yorkshire”.
As many businesses selling in the markets are working in the modern age, it gives them the chance to get their websites out there and create sales online across the country.
Hate it or love it, it is undeniable that it brings vast tourism to the city which generates more opportunities for our local businesses.
Merry Christmas!
