A pilot peer support group focusing on men’s mental health in Leeds has been given the greenlight to start up again full time.
After finishing his Masters in sustainable cities at the University of Leeds, Adam Taylor, 25, decided that after years of studying he wanted to give something back.
Signing up to volunteer at his local community centre, Taylor explored the different avenues in which he could offer his time.
Having experienced his own personal loss due to ill mental health, Taylor wanted to acknowledge the current lack of resources available for men and do to something about it.
“I want to create a healthy debate amongst men about what masculinity actually is and how we can redefine that narrative,” he said.
Initially starting out as a ten-week programme, the charitable organisation, Oblong, that manages Woodhouse Community Centre, Leeds, have now asked Taylor to manage the support group full time.
Leeds Mindful Men will resume in April with exact dates to be confirmed.
Taylor is currently looking for volunteers. If you or anyone you know may be interested, then please email adamtaylorvolunteering@gmail.com
