Yarnbury RFC 60-28 Ossett

Kennedy double hat trick gives Yarnbury a huge victory over Ossett.

Yarnbury recover from their narrow loss to North Ribb as they earn their seventh win of ten in the league.

The game started in Yarnbury’s favour who were on the attack when full back Max Kennedy who would score the first try of the game, he went down the wing to score and it was fly half Dan Pound who was kicking duties, his first conversion went over. It was a tough ten minutes of scrums, but Yarnbury would soon score another try after Ossett lost the ball which was found in the hands of flanker Cameron Newby, he offloaded it to winger Alex Lee who grubber kicked the ball which was in the hands of scrum half Sam Puxley who scored at the corner and Pound was on target with the conversion. It looked to be all Yarnbury in this half when inside centre Joe Pearson was able to sidestep his way through to score a try and Pound was able to score three out of three with conversions. Near the end of the half Ossett finally got their first try of the match when a pass to second row Jack Peat saw him score at the corner and fly half Daniel Ratcliffe got his first conversion. But Yarnbury responded well when Kennedy got his second try of the match as he scored down the corner and Pound missed the conversion. Kennedy wouldn’t have to wait long though for his hat trick he passed the ball to winger and captain Josh Bateson who offloaded the ball back to Kennedy to score sadly no conversion from Pound. Ossett would score the last try of the half when second row James Burton crashed over the line to score and Ratcliffe’s conversion was scored to reduce Yarnbury’s lead at halftime.

The second half saw a potential comeback for Ossett when Ratcliffe found space to go over the line and he would convert. Ossett being 10 points now, the comeback was looking to become reality. But the thought of a comeback was off when Kennedy showed great pace to score a fourth try for Yarnbury but Pound would miss. Kennedy was already searching for a second half hat trick when he went down the line to score another try, his fifth and Pound would score a sensational conversion. It was becoming a try fest again for Yarnbury, captain Bateson would run down the wing to score a try, but Pound’s conversion was off. But Ossett would get a try bonus when replacement Jonathon Banks would crash through the Yarnbury defence to score and Rattcliffe converted. Yarnbury would however get half a century of points when Kennedy showed his pace again, he found Alex Lee who went down to score and Pound would miss the conversion again. But there would be one more try and it was another hat trick for Kennedy who intercepted the ball from Ossett to score under the posts with it being his 50th try for Yarnbury and Pound scored a quick conversion at full time.
