Yarnbury RFC 24-24 Roundhegians

Another Kennedy hat-trick helps Yarnbury in a second half comeback despite it being a draw.

This is the first draw this season in Counties 2 Yorkshire.

It was an even start for both sides with Yarnbury nearly scoring to then the same from Roundhegians. A first try for Roundhegians was nearly scored when inside centre Robert Turner went down the wing, but he was tackled down by Yarnbury full back Max Kennedy. But Roundhegians were awarded a penalty due to Yarnbury being offside and scrum half Alex Jones scored the penalty. Minutes later Yarnbury almost scored a try, great attack from the men in blue where winger Alex Lee almost found space, but he knocked the ball on just a few metres from scoring. Eventually though Yarnbury would score their first try, winger Joshua Bateson kicked the ball down the line and perfectly bounced for Kennedy for him to score a brilliant try and fly half Daniel Pound just scored the conversion. But the men in white would respond quickly when replacement Lewis Greenan-Barrett found space to score under the posts followed by a simple conversion from Jones and the score would remain 7-10 to Roundhegians at halftime.

The start of the second half almost went Yarnbury’s way when second row James Falgate managed to breakthrough the Roundhegians defence he found flanker Cam Newby who made a long pass to Kennedy but he failed to catch the ball as it went into touch. Later it was nearly the perfect start for Roundhegians this time when winger Jack Banister showed great pace he made it all they way to the 22 until Kennedy showed excellent defence again to bring him down. Despite that, Roundhegians would get their second try where Turner was able to stretch over the line to score the try and Jones was once again successful with the conversion. A tense few minutes until a terrible pass from Roundhegians saw an intercept from Bateson who would score a try under the posts and Pound converted. A penalty was awarded to Roundhegians when Alex Lee made a dangerous tackle and he saw a yellow card putting Yarnbury down to 14 men. Later on, it would punish Yarnbury more after Kennedy knocked the ball on it was intercepted by Roundhegians flanker William Malia and he would score along with a conversion from Jones. But it wouldn’t be long for Yarnbury to get back at them, excellent attack from the men in blue came a second try for Kennedy who scored down at the corner, but Pound failed to get the conversion. Kennedy who scored a hat-trick last week would get it again as he scored down the corner again to equalise, but it was another missed conversion from Pound. Try scorer Turner would be penalised and see a yellow card for a dangerous tackle and Pound went for three points but his kick was scuffed so the score remained level until fulltime.
