With the Winter Olympics having started in Milan this week, let’s take a look at one of Yorkshire’s own, figure skater, Luke Digby.

Figure skater, Luke Digby, has headed off to Milano Cortina for Great Britain, with his pairs partner, Anastasia Vaipan–Law.

The pair recently competed in Digby’s hometown of Sheffield in January, 2026, during the ISU European Figure Skating Championships at Utilita Arena Sheffield.

Digby’s interest in skating began at age six, inspired by his older sisters’ obsessions with Dancing On Ice.

Initially, he didn’t want to do skating lessons, instead only wanting to be involved in public skating.

It was when he was about eight or nine, that this changed, and he started to learn and when he started to compete, that’s when his love for figure skating really started to develop.

He started out as a singles figure skater, as did his partner, Anastasia Vaipan–Law, in which he had a successful career, with three British national titles at a junior level, as well as having competed at the European Youth Olympic festival and the World Figure Skating Championships.

His solo skating career came to an end, around the end of 2018, after a knee injury made it impossible for him to continue on his own.

Vaipan–Law also experienced a knee injury in 2018 and having always known each other; Digby and herself got in contact and came together as a pair in 2019.

Their first European Championship took place in Tallinn in 2022 where they finished in 18th, but since then, the pair achieved Britain’s best result in 35 years, at the European Championships, where they finished fifth in 2025.

They have also won five straight national titles since their coming together as a pair in 2019.

With Digby and Vaipan–Law having competed at the Milan Winter Olympics during the Team Event Pairs Short Program this morning, he was asked what he is most looking forward to experiencing both on and off the ice.

Digby replied that he was most excited about stepping out onto Olympic ice and performing for the first time and that the moment is something he dreamt about.

The pair will next perform at the Milan Winter Olympics during the Pairs Short Program at 6:45pm (GMT) on Sunday 15 February.
