WEST YORKSHIRE FIRE and Rescue Service (WYFRS) hopes to raise home fire safety awareness amongst the deaf community.

Alongside their new campaign a video has been released to coincide with national Deaf Awareness Week and gives top tips in British Sign Language (BSL) on fire safety in the home.

The video illustrates why you should know your escape route in the event of a fire, to the dangers of smoking in bed, whilst also delivering the important message that everyone needs smoke detection in their homes.

It includes advice on specialist smoke alarms which cater for those who have a hearing impairment, as the alarm uses a vibrating pad and a strobe light to alert people to a fire instead of the conventional sounding alarm.
