Sheffield Wednesday dreaming of play-offs as Blackburn come to town

By Dom Brown
May 28, 2016. A date which sticks in the heads of Sheffield Wednesday fans, when over 30,000 travelled down the M1 to Wembley Stadium to watch their Owls in the Championship play-off final.
Supporters left dejected after a 1-0 loss against Hull City, but there is a belief that the play-offs will be kinder to them the second time around after Friday’s 3-0 victory over fellow promotion hopefuls Birmingham City.
Carlos Carvahal’s Sheffield Wednesday have won their last two matches and currently sit 6th, two points clear of Norwich City and with a game in hand over the Canaries.
Jordan Rhodes scored his first goal for Wednesday during Friday’s win, and will be looking to add to his tally as he faces former employers Blackburn.
The club from the North West sold Rhodes to Middlesbrough for around £12m during the January window, but after a disappointing 12-month stint on Teesside he returned to the Championship last month.
Owls fans are confident they can pick up a victory against the Championship’s 3rd bottom club.
Ben Smallwood, a student at Sheffield Hallam University, predicted 2-1 to Wednesday: “We never make it easy for ourselves against the bottom teams, Blackburn will score first as well.”
Fellow students Adam Smith and Jake Brumpton believe the three points will stay in Yorkshire and are predicting 1-0 wins for Wednesday.
“We never do anything the easy way,” said Smith, “It will be 1-0, just like the Wigan game.”
“I think we will keep a clean sheet against Blackburn,” said Brumpton, who studies History at Sheffield Hallam, “Jordan Rhodes will score again, 1-0 Wednesday.”
