Rugby League stars have their say on the new “demanding schedule”

By Ben Guzdek

Last night premiered the new series of ‘The Super League Show’ on BBC One which highlighted the action that unfolded in the Super League’s first stage.

A debate was underway as presenter Tanya Arnold wanted to discuss the RFL’s bid to make the Super League as good as the NRL, which is known to produce the best talent in the sport.

In order to meet that goal the RFL have proposed a “shorter season” in 2018 where they believe the clubs will be able to rotate between regular first team players and the players who’ve came through the academy system. This is so they are able to produce the best English talent before the 2021 World Cup comes to England.

One of the pundits was Hull FC captain Gareth Ellis who used to play for the West Tigers in the NRL believes that there’s a gulf between the two sides and that issue needs to be “addressed”.

He believes that the RFL are taking action to ensure that players can happily compete in the Super League rather than the RFL over in Australia.

Leeds Rhinos second-rower Jamie Jones Buchannan also featured on the programme last night and addressed the so-called ‘demanding schedule’ and believes that “the clubs need to work together to make a plan” implying that he’s up to the challenge.

The clip below gets a reaction from Rugby League fan Jamie Woodhouse.
