More than 7,000 people participated in South Yorkshire’s most popular and largest half marathon on Sunday.
The Sheffield Half Marathon is one of the best-attended events of its kind in the country, attracting thousands of runners of all abilities to the city’s streets each year and raising significant funds for charitable causes.
Starting and finishing on Arundel Gate in Sheffield city centre, the event drew huge crowds, with spectators lining the route to cheer participants along the way.
The half marathon is part of Jane Tomlinson’s ‘Run for All’, a tribute to the legacy of Jane Tomlinson CBE, a former amateur athlete and fundraiser. Jane, originally from Leeds, inspired people around the world with a series of remarkable endurance events despite being diagnosed with an incurable cancer.
The charity was established to raise funds for other causes and to inspire others through her achievements.
This year, St Luke’s Hospice, Sheffield Children’s Hospital Charity, Embrace, and Macmillan were among the race’s partner charities. Last year the event raised over £175,000.
Run for All organisers highlighted the success of the event: “It’s always a pleasure to return to Sheffield for South Yorkshire’s biggest half marathon, and this weekend was no exception. The atmosphere was incredible – thousands of runners and supporters came together to create a memorable day for the city.
“A huge well done to everyone who took part, whether you were chasing a personal best, running for a cause close to your heart, or simply embracing the challenge. Every participant and every supporter helped make this event such a success.
“We’re already excited to be back in Sheffield for the 10K in September, and we’d encourage anyone thinking about setting themselves a goal to get involved. Entries for the 2027 Sheffield Half Marathon are also now open, and we’d love to see even more people on the start line next year.”
