Oxford face Rotherham in a battle to stay in the playoff places

By Charles Jones

Rotherham face a tough test as they travel to fellow playoff contenders Oxford United on Saturday.

Rotherham come to The Kassam Stadium during their worst run away from home this season, losing three out of their last four away games. Meanwhile Oxford have their sights set on extending their unbeaten run to five games in the league after a draw with promotion hopefuls Charlton midweek.

The Millers will be boosted by the fact that key players Lee Frecklington and Jon Taylor look set to be back in the squad after injury layoffs as well as a returning Darren Potter.

Kieffer Moore will be looking to continue his incredible goal scoring form, hitting four in his last six league appearances, putting him at 10 for the season. Moore is going up against one of the worst defenses in the league, which includes CB Mike Williamson, who figures to be a complete mismatch for the Millers to exploit.

Oxford United midfielder Josh Ruffels signed a new contract this week, just shy of a month after making his 100th appearance for the club. Manager Pep Clotet said  “Josh is an excellent player and a fantastic pro. He has a lot of experience for someone who is still only 23 and we are delighted that he sees his future as being part of what we hope to build here.”

Only two points separate the sides in League One and both have the ability to achieve a top six finish. The division is tight this season and if Oxford United and if results all go against the U’s on the weekend, they could drop as low as 10th place.
