Northern Rail strike impacts 60% of usual rail services

By Elle Rigby

Bradford employees have had to re plan their journey’s to work this morning due to the strike by Northern Rail.

Nearly sixty percent of trains have either been replaced by buses or are running on a limited service.

Sharon Keith, Regional Director from Northern Rail, has urged passengers to make plans accordingly to help ease travel.

“We are placing three-hundred rail replacement bus services, and we’ve got full ticket acceptance on all Arriva buses.

“We would ask customers to check before they travel, understand what the disruption means to them and to make plans accordingly.”

Sharon Keith spoke of the reasons behind the strike and said: “Northern have started a modernisation programme and with that programme we’re transforming rail travel in the north and giving our customers the train service that they want and that they deserve.”

She said the company want to evaluate where Northern Rail place its people to give their customers the maximum benefit and have the most visible and accessible staff.

Commuters to Bradford say they will be late for work.
