The Leeds Trinity Lions are in preparation for their cricket season which is just around the corner. Captain James Massheder is in high hopes that the team will do well this campaign.
The Lions finished third in the Northern Division 3B last season winning three out of their five games and picking up nine points. The most comfortable win coming away to Sunderland after an impressive bowling spell saw Trinity bowl them out for just 49.
They have been preparing for the season since September and Massheder is very confident going into the opening game of the season, he stated: “We have a very good set of fresher’s that have joined with a few good editions including a wicketkeeper and people who can bat up the order, we are going to be strong and have a good season.” He then added “Some of the stronger teams are up north so those are the best games.”
The team will start the season with a tough home game against Northumbria University on May 2nd. They came down from the Northern Division 2B after finishing bottom of the league. Trinity will then take on York, Huddersfield and Sunderland before concluding the season with an away trip to Durham who are also new to this division.
Wicketkeeper for The Lions George Elliott joined the team this year and while speaking to us he thinks that the team are training very well at the moment. He said: “It has been very good so far and has been intense. We have started doing fielding now and it has been very good. With being a wicketkeeper myself, it’s good to have confidence in your fielders.
The standard of the bowling has been great as well and the standard of batting has been good”.
The Lions will soon take their training outside where more fielding will take place in preparation for May 2nd.
