A gunman who laughed after shooting a policewoman in the face is beginning a life sentence today.
James Leslie shot PC Suzanne Hudson at point-blank range after she and colleague PC Richard Whiteley were called out to his flat in Headingley in December 2013.
PC Whiteley told Leeds crown court that as Suzanne lay on the floor Leslie said “Do you want some more?” before he cycled off laughing.
Leslie was due to be sentenced last year but the hearing was delayed so that his mental state could be assessed.
PC Hudson needed emergency surgery to repair her carotid artery and jugular vein and had 80 shotgun pellets removed from her hand.
Mr Justice Lindblom, jailing Leslie at Leeds Crown Court said it was clear that he suffered from a personality disorder and needed ongoing treatment.
