Suspected arson attack at Guiseley means Vixens need new venue

By Jamie Woodhouse

Guiseley Vixens have been forced to find a new venue for their league match against Hull City Ladies, after a suspicious fire at Nethermoor Park.

The Vixens are currently second in the Women’s Premier League Northern Division One with Hull just one point behind them in the table.

The blaze caused serious damage to the turnstiles, changing rooms and electrics. A member of the public reported seeing smoke coming from one of the turnstiles to the West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service. The fire was quickly put out, but caused smoke and water damage.

Vixens manager Kyle O’Reilly said: “It’s extremely frustrating considering we’ve only had the one fixture in two months. Everyone just wants to get out and play some football.

“We’re going really well in the league too so we’re keen to keep building our points.”

O’Reilly admitted it would be tough to find a different ground to host the fixture. He said: “We are trying to source an alternative venue currently but with it being short notice and the current weather conditions, finding a suitable venue is proving difficult.

“It might be that we end up rescheduling later in the season or even a mid-week fixture, but that doesn’t lie in my hands, the league would decide.”
