Castleford Tigers Ladies aiming for a top four finish

By Sebastian Sternik

Castleford Tigers Ladies head coach Lindsay Anfield has high ambitions for her team in their first ever season.

The newly-established team will take on the likes of Bradford Bulls, Featherstone Rovers and the current champions, Thatto Heath Crusaders. However, Anfield believes her side can give these teams a run for their money and book a place in the semi-finals.

She said: “Expectations are to hopefully compete with the top teams in the league. I have done so much preparation that anything less than at least being in the reaching distance of the top three teams, will be disappointing. Top four and getting into the semi-final is a reasonable expectation.”

Castleford Tigers Ladies are closely affiliated with the Super League outfit and are also in close partnership with local side Cutsyke Raiders.

Many of the players, including Emma Lumley, are excited to play under a household name like Castleford Tigers.

She said: It’s an exciting prospect. It’s going to be my first league team and I have real buzz about it. The atmosphere’s great, the girls are fab and training has been intense so it’s good.”

The team is currently working towards pre-season with strength and conditioning as their main focus. With the new season set to begin in early 2017, the preparations will only get tougher.
