Leeds Trinity University alumna and now editor of the Yorkshire Evening Post Laura Collins is set to be interviewed at Leeds Trinity University’s Journalism and Media Week.
The Interview next week will cover how Laura has managed to steer her team and the newspaper through the storm of the recent local election, Brexit and reporting news during the pandemic.
The Yorkshire Evening Post is a regional paper reporting on a variety of topics concerning Yorkshire, with an emphasis on the readers’ voices and stories.
Rebecca Whittington, lecturer in Journalism, said: ‘’ I am really looking forward to welcoming Laura back to Leeds Trinity University to inspire the next generation of potential editors and campaigners.
‘’She has succeeded in putting Leeds and the Yorkshire Evening Post on the map with her campaigning for a fair share of government money and attention for the north of England, her work highlighting mental health issues in the city and her fight against online abuse of journalists.’’
Reflecting upon her own career and experience, Laura champions the newspaper’s Call It Out campaign aimed at raising awareness and encouraging readers to report abuse behaviour online particularly on social media.
Ms Collins interview, Marching on together: the challenges and triumphs of local journalism in 2020, will take place at 10 am on Monday 2 November 2020.
The interview will be live streamed on Youtube and Facebook.
