An explosion forced residents to evacuate and roads to close in the End Park area of Leeds around 7pm tonight [Tuesday].

Police rushed to the scene after a blast was reported on Clark Mount, near Richmond Hill Primary School.

The windows of a ground floor flat were found to be damaged and the surrounding area was cleared by the police and other agencies. Investigations into the circumstances of the scare are on-going.

No one was injured and at 10pm the area was declared safe for residents to return.

A statement from West Yorkshire Police said: “Police would like to thank local residents for their co-operation and patience throughout.”
