Bolton Wanderers moving in the right direction

By Ben Mockridge

Bolton Wanderers will look to continue their promotion charge as they welcome struggling Coventry City to the Macron Stadium.

Bolton are currently in third place, six points off top spot but level on points with second-placed Sheffield United. Coventry on the other hand are currently lying in 19th.

This fixture sees a return to Bolton for Marvin Sordell, who will be back at Bolton for the first time since leaving in July 2014. Sordell endured quite a barren spell of two and a half years at the Macron Stadium scoring just 8 goals.

After making the move to Coventry this summer Sordell is enjoying better from netting 6 times in 19 appearances.

The form of Bolton has been indifferent in recent weeks with two wins and two losses in their previous four.

They will however be looking to put a run of good form together after overcoming Millwall 2-0 last time out thanks to goals from Josh Vela and substitute Tom Thorpe.

Goalkeeper Mark Howard will again be absent from the Bolton line-up after suffering a broken thumb and ligament damage in the 1-0 defeat away to Peterborough United.

As a result of a 4-1 defeat away to Oxford United, Coventry have suffered two successive defeats in League 1 and are in need of a win here.

They will be looking for their first victory since former Wales international Sam Ricketts was forced to retire earlier this month due to a knee injury.

Coventry interim boss Mark Venus is approaching this fixture with caution telling the club’s official website: “When you go to play a team at the top of the league there is bound to be trepidation, but there has to be belief and drive. They all have a point to prove, and we’re all learning about each other. We have got until January to prove ourselves.”
