Barker set to stay at MK Dons as Gerrard rumour goes cold

By Matty Ramage

MK Dons caretaker boss Richie Barker will be looking to build on the 0-0 draw with Bristol Rovers when his side comes up against bottom of the league Chesterfield.

It seems as though Barker will be staying on following the news former Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard was not taking the vacant manager position at stadium:MK.

Chesterfield are in desperate need of three points and a win against relegation rivals MK Dons could see them move off the bottom of the table. And their next three  league games are against teams in the top seven. A loss for MK could see them drop to 22nd should Oldham Athletic pick up a win.

Chesterfield will be hoping striker Ched Evans can recapture his goal-scoring form, having not scored in the league since August. Chesterfield have struggled to find the net this season, with Evans the club’s top scorer having bagged just five in all competitions. The club have only managed six in their last ten games. Three of those came in the exciting 3-3 draw with Gillingham at the end of September.

Former Bristol Rovers boss Steve Cotterill is now among the favourites to be given the job and will have a lot of work to do in replacing Karl Robinson, who was in charge of the club for six years and was hugely popular amongst the club’s fans.
