Yarnbury Ladies 17-10 Scunthorpe Women

Yarnbury Ladies battle through the rain to gain a narrow win over Scunthorpe.

Yarnbury keep their spot in second place, six points behind league leaders Hull Ionian Women.

The first ten minutes of the game was tight. Scunthorpe nearly had the first try of the match, but Yarnbury’s defence was being a major problem for the women in green. Despite the Yarnbury defence being a huge threat, Scunthorpe would eventually get the try, full back Ewa Jasek found space to score the try and front rower Louise Beedham had a chance to get two points, but her kick was scuffed. Scunthorpe nearly had their second try when winger Ella Nutbrown when down the line almost scoring but she was tackled into touch. A quiet half until near the end Jasek was penalised and sin binned and Yarnbury took that advantage when captain Lauren Morgan was able to stretch over the line to score Yarnbury’s first try of the match. Front rower Georgia Thompson was on kicking duties, but her conversion was missed so the score stayed level. Yarnbury would quickly score again at injury time, this time it was fly half Ruth Flory who would score a quick try after the lineout and Thompson successfully converted.

The start of the second half saw another yellow card for Scunthorpe, replacement Jenna Snell’s tackle was high on Lauren Morgan. After that, Yarnbury got their third try, Thompson would be able to get over the try line to score but she would miss the conversion. The final five minutes was tight and Scunthorpe would finally get their first try of the half when fly half Cassandra Milestone found space to score but Beedham missed the conversion.
