The main event for this card is outstanding championship fight for the undisputed featherweight title between the champion, the Georgian/Spaniard Ilia “El Matador” Topuria against the number two contender, Hawaii’s own Max “Blessed” Holloway. This fight has been slated for a good year now as in Topuria’s last fight in the main event in Anaheim, California at UFC 298 Topuria put the reigning champion Alexander Volkanovski to sleep in impressive fashion in round two of the bout, although Volkanovski was coming off being brutally finished by Islam Makachev in the weight class above, he had been undefeated in featherweight for many years so for Ilia to put him to sleep and win the championship in that fashion is very impressive. Topuria is currently undefeated.
As for Max he has only ever been beaten by Volkanovski at featherweight and has had his own title reign, Max in recent times put lightweight contender and BMF champion Justin Gaethje out cold in the quite literally the last second of their fight after putting an impressive beat down on the BMF champion. One thing we know is that “Blessed” Holloway is no slouch and has been putting on performance after performance in his previous bouts. Both men are known for their boxing showing impressive head movement. Max showed shades of the late great Muhmmed Ali in his bout against Kalvin Katter and Ilia in his title shot against Volkanovski showed his impressive bob and weave Mike Tyson style of slipping punches.
In recent news following an unfortunate injury the Russian heavyweight contender Alexander “Drago” Volkov is out of the 308 event held in Abu Dabi where he was supposed to be facing the French number one contender Ciryl Gane, this has taken a big hit to the card as it was the only heavyweight boat on the main card and the winner of this fight is a future title contender against either Tom Aspinall for the interim belt or the winner of Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic for the undisputed belt. UFC president Dana White has moved this bout to the UFC 310 event in the T mobile arena.
