Two New Pathways Introduced To Provide Stroke Care In North Yorkshire Could Save Lives

Harrogate Hospital have teamed up with Leeds and York hospitals to create two new pathways to provide first class stroke care.

Historically stroke patients in the town have on occasion been left without the specialised treatment that is necessary when someone has had a stroke. Time is of the essence at the acute stage of this illness and immediate medical intervention is crucial.

Emma Edgar, Clinical Director at Harrogate Hospital said: “We have been working closely through the stroke delivery network across Humber, North and West Yorkshire to improve pathways for Harrogate patients.”

These two pathways have been designed in order to fast track patients directly to York or Leeds, where they can begin their treatment immediately.

Harrogate locals have been concerned about the issue surrounding stroke care at Harrogate hospital and patient safety incidents, they are relieved that there is now a solution. Chris Murphy from Harrogate said: “It is certainly reassuring to hear of the new stroke pathways, and I am sure it will make a big difference.”
