Two men were killed and a third was injured when their car overturned and hit a lamp post.

The driver of a black Renault Clio and a passenger were both pronounced dead at the scene, at 9.30pm on Sunday night, on Methley Lane, Oulton, according to police.

The vehicle was heading towards Rothwell before it rolled a number of times and collided with a lamppost after the driver lost control, finally stopping in a field.

Police said the driver, 24, of Rothwell, and the rear seat passenger, 25, of Rothwell, both received fatal injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene.

A 29-year-old man, who was a passenger in the front seat, was taken to Leeds General Infirmary and is thought to have received slight injuries.

Detective Constable Jenny Stanley, of West Yorkshire Police Major Collision Enquiry Team, said: “We are keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident or who may have seen the vehicle in the time leading up to it.

“We would also like to hear from anyone who may have had contact with the occupants of the vehicle on Sunday evening prior to the collision.”
