The countdown to the UK’s Christmas number one has begun as singers in the charts battle to get first place.
The winner will be revealed on Friday, December 21 on Radio 1 with radio DJ Scott Mills.
Last year’s first place was Ed Sheeran with the song Perfect. He told the Official Charts: “This is an actual dream come true and I’m very proud and happy. Thank you very much for making Perfect Christmas Number 1.”
This year’s potential number ones are Ariana Grande with thank u, next, Ava Max with Sweet but Psycho, Los Unidades with E-Lo’ and Elton John Your Song’.
The UK singles chart started in 1952 and has been a yearly tradition for 65 years and is calculated based on the week-end sales totals.
The number one spot has been claimed by The Beatles, Spice Girls, Queen and Band Aid. The Christmas number one has seen 12 actual Christmas songs, eight contestant winners such as Alexandra Burke from X-Factor and three by choirs.
