Ten six foot statues have been placed around York city centre as part of this year’s Nutcracker Trial.
York Bid has collaborated with illustration company MarcoLooks to design this year’s art installation called ‘Nutcrackers Around the World’.
Every lifesize statue represents a different country with each one being painted in the colours of the flag and includes an image that represents the country such as a flower, bird or animal.
Marc Godfrey who designed each of the Nutcrackers said: “Together we wanted to make a really beautiful trail that is representative and inclusive of all the communities that we have living here in York.”
On each nutcracker Marc included braille to make it accessible for people with sight difficulties as Marc himself is amblyopic meaning he is visually impaired in one eye.

The trail is free to take part in and the map can be collected from the Visit York Information Centre on the corner of Parliament Street.
Once completed there is a chance to win £250 if you enter the draw and get all 10 countries correct.
The Nutcrackers will be in York until January 1, 2025. For more information go to The York BID website.
