As Sheffield Wednesday look to draw an end to their miserable campaign fortunes seem to keep going from bad to worse for the blue side of Sheffield. Today Jos Luhukay revealed yet another arrow removed from the Owl’s quiver in the form of Sean Clare. After recent news of Ross Wallaces’ season coming to an abrupt end due to a knee injury suffered on their travels to Millwall rising star is the next name added to a long list of injuries.
Despite playing the full 90 minutes of Wednesdays clash with Bolton Young starlet Sean Clare has picked up an ankle injury that doctors say will rule him out for the remainder of the championship season. Although Clare had only just broken into the first team his displays against Aston villa and Bolton particularly appear to have captured the attention of the Wednesday faithful. It will be decided next whether the 21 year old will require surgery. The Owls manager describes the injury as a “shock moment” however the medical team have come to the conclusion that “he is not playing anymore in this season”
Although Clare becomes the twelfth first team play to pen his name on the injury list fans could be boosted by the news of influential players such as Barry Bannan and Sam Hutchinson who have been sorely missed. Along with Joost Van Aken, both Hutchinson and Bannan could work their way into Saturdays squad for the trip to Elland Road. Luhukay in an interview with BBC Radio Sheffield’s Andy Giddings claimed all three to be in “very good shape” confirming that each are “training 100% with the team”. Van Aken and Hutchinson both featured in the recent under 23 fixture for Wednesday meaning only Bannan has yet to play in recent time.
