Rachel Meachem, A 2023 graduate from Leeds Trinity University has broken the barriers as female video editor for male dominated company LADbible.
Rachel (seated in photo) a bright and bubbly individual, who did start off in Tyla, a new breed of female publishers within the company, she had the support of amazing women mentors to guide her at the start of her journey.
Meachem didn’t envision her career to be a video editor and work for LADbible, she had the passion for being a writer and admitted that it was tough to find work as a graduate and she worked in all areas of film to enhance her CV. Rachel was honest and said: “If she didn’t study at Leeds Trinity University, she wouldn’t have been successful in landing her role.”
This sparked the electricity in the room for Students of Film, Tv Production and Journalism at the Q&A at Journalism and Media Week at Leeds Trinity. Rachel was asked, “Why did she choose to study at LTU?”
Rachel said: “I wanted a small university, I had better relationships with lecturers, more time and loved the practical aspect of the uni.”
This rocketed Rachel’s passion and putting herself ‘out there’ after graduating university and after being knocked back from several roles, she didn’t let her feminine energy hold her back. Rachel openly admitted she was apprehensive at first about applying for the role at LADbible as it’s very “laddy.”
Although her career goal is yet to be reached, Rachel was honest when she advised promising students in a Q&A to “Start writing, be jack of all trades, try everything and save money and live at home.” This enthusiasm, being thick skinned and challenging herself to use her video editing skills, made her the standout candidate for the role at LAD bible.
Rachel said: “Knowledge is power and having a job that’s stable, to be as creative as I get to be, and I edited 100 videos last week.”
Rachel is supported, recognised and has great working relationships at LADbible, she is surrounded by different skill sets, she has had a great start into her career and has hopes and dreams she wants to achieve.
“I want to write a sitcom, like fleabag but it’s set up north, that is my gig, that’s what I want to do that is my passion project.”
