How to stand out as a sports journalist: Yorkshire Post’s sports editor Nick Westby to speak at Leeds Trinity Journalism and Media Week

By Tom Heath

Nick Westby, sports editor at The Yorkshire Post, will share his experience of working in sports journalism when he speaks to Leeds Trinity University students next week.

Nick has worked at The Yorkshire Post for over 12 years, and has been sports editor for nearly six of those years.

His talk on Wednesday 4 November will focus on how to get the attention of employers, as well as how to make an application stand out from the rest.

Having had experience in both writing and editing capacities, Nick will be bringing a lot of industry knowledge to the talk.

Leeds Trinity University’s Media lecturer Richard Greatrex said: “We are delighted to have Nick with us this year as part of Journalism and Media Week.

“Nick’s impressive career in sports journalism will not only provide students with an incredible opportunity to learn about the practicalities of running a busy sports desk from an experienced sports editor, but also give the students invaluable advice on how they too can develop a successful career in sports journalism.”

The talk will take place on Wednesday 4 November at 1pm and will be available to view live on the Yorkshire Voice Youtube channel, as well on Facebook.
