“Mylo Saved My Life”: How Mylo and Rosie’s Unique Bond Makes Award-Winning Radio

Hits Radio breakfast host Rosie Madison has explained how her co-star and friend Danny Mylo’s advice may have kept her alive.

Speaking at Leeds Trinity University’s Journalism & Media Week, the pair candidly reflected on how their relationship is not only crucial to their award-winning breakfast show – but also to each other’s health.

Avid listeners of Hits Radio West Yorkshire will have noticed Rosie’s absence from several shows this September. During this time, she underwent medical procedures including multiple blood transfusions.

“I wasn’t feeling right over that weekend, and on the Monday Mylo told me I looked awful.” said Madison, before Danny quipped: “Which was bad because I’ve seen her without make-up!”

Rosie went on to reveal that she only visited the doctors after Mylo’s insistence: “It was a scary week. The doctor told me that if I hadn’t gone that day, I would’ve been blue lighted in.”

Danny Mylo and Rosie Madison have hosted the breakfast show on Hits Radio West Yorkshire for 10 years, picking up four Audio & Radio Industry Awards (ARIA’s) along the way. Their first success came in 2018 with a gold award for ‘Best Music Presenter’. They then won ‘Best Local Show’ in 2023, before retaining it in 2024. The pair also bagged silver for ‘Best Music Breakfast Show’ earlier this year.

As well as reflecting on Rosie’s health scare, the duo provided those in attendance with some tips and tricks for making a splash in the radio world: “Just do any job you can to get your foot in the door, even making cups of tea for people. And remember, humour first! Don’t be too serious.” Cue frantic scribbles in notepads as tutors and students, eagerly crammed into the Mary Hallaway Lecture Theatre, lapped up the wise words.

During their 45-minute slot on Wednesday, the award-winning radio presenters bounced off each other with a telepathic pace that has been honed over a glistening ten-year period. “We know ourselves; we know it’s real, it’s authentic,” said Rosie when asked about how they carved their place into the hearts of local listeners. “If you want them to be honest with you, you’ve got to give something back. We want listeners to feel like we’re their best friends.”

This approach appears to have worked as planned – after Mylo and Rosie’s time onstage came to an end, they were swarmed by students eager for a selfie and a chat.
