A man has been found guilty of attempting to murder a police officer at Leeds Crown Court today.
James Leslie, 38, from Headingley, fired at PC Suzanne Hudson, 33, with a sawn off shotgun on December 4 last year.
She suffered a disfigured hand and had additional injuries to her neck and face when Mr Leslie fired at her and colleague, PC Richard Whiteley, through a glass door.
Mrs Hudson, originally from Lancashire, became a regular officer in 2010 and was on her sixth shift when she was shot.
She told the court the events that occurred after the two police officers responded to a routine call on Cardigan Road, inHeadingley, were like being in a war movie.
Mr Leslie had told the jury that the shotgun had accidentally fired when it became tangled with the drawstrings of a bag it was being carried in. He later fled the scene on a bicycle.
He was also found guilty of possessing a shotgun with the intent to endanger life. He had previously pleaded guilty to arson of a prison cell and assault on a prison officer and is expected to be sentenced for the additional crimes early in October.
