Delays loom for Leeds motorists throughout summer, as major road works begin on the A1(M) today.

Resurfacing work, the length of six tennis courts, will be carried out every night in a bid to improve sections of the A1(M) near Leeds.

Motorists will face possible delays for the next three months as sections of the work (1,2000 sq meters), which will include resurfacing, replacement and the general maintenance – is to be carried out between Boston Spa and Braham.

Highways England Project Manager, Daniel Edwards, said “We realise this will cause some disruption to motorists as we will have a temporary 50mph speed limit on the link road connecting the A64 westbound carriageway with the A1(M).”

“This resurfacing work will replace the worn out carriageway making the road safer and smoother to travel along.”

The 50mph speed limit will affect those travelling on the southbound A1 from junction 45 to Junction 44 until the 28th of July.

However work will then take place on the link road connecting the A64 westbound carriageway with the southbound A1 at Braham crossroads until the beginning of September (4th).
