Bradford born darting superstar Joe Cullen achieved all dart players dream by winning a PDC major honour. “The Rockstar” won the Ladbrokes Masters on Sunday defeating Dave Chisnall 11-9 in the final, earning Cullen a spot in the Premier League which kicks off tonight in Cardiff.
“It’s good to get it out of the way, I’ve worked hard for a long time to get there and now its finally here it feels great”. Welsh darting superstar Jonny Clayton won the Masters 12 months ago earning a spot in the Premier League and Cullen will be looking for something very similar this time around.
During the final on Sunday, the rockstar did miss six match darts but didn’t let that affect him as he hit double eighteen on his eleventh attempt to close out the match.
“I know I flapped a bit at the masters getting the winning double, but I managed to get over the line, so I think next time I get to a big TV final, I’ll be a bit more comfortable in that sort of environment”
“I think this win will give me confidence going into the next few TV tournaments and I know that I can win them now”
Joe also praised the impact that the people around him have had on his career including good mate Devon Peterson. “The tour would be a difficult place to be if you were lonely so having close friends doing a job you absolutely love makes it a lot easier. Devon has supported me a lot of time as well as my good friends who are on the tour”
Joe also said the support he has received back at home in Bradford motivates him constantly on stage and helped him in his efforts at the weekend.
“Family and friends and even the local people where I live, they all have great support for me. I took the trophy back, walked into the pub that my sister owned, and they all gave me a round of applause which was nice as it was a local boy doing good”.
“The Rockstar” will make his Premier League debut on Thursday as he prepares to face Jonny Clayton in Cardiff tonight in the first match of the night.
