Huge Success In Pudsey For Leeds Winter Coat Appeal

The Leeds Winter Coat Appeal has seen record numbers of donations this year.

The scheme, run by environmental charity Zero Waste Leeds, gathers unused winter coats and distributes them across the city and its nearby villages for residents to claim for free.

Pudsey Community Project is one of the many hubs for collection. Volunteers pick up, organise and give away the coats to locals.

In November alone, Pudsey Community Project were visited by 215 different families, who re-homed 277 bags of winter clothes. Meanwhile, the Leeds Winter Coat Appeal has collected an overall total of 3100 coats so far.

“It’s a constant stream,” said Tracy Morgan, Project Manager of Zero Waste Leeds. “We’ve been blown away by the generosity of Leeds families.”

With the appeal running until 31st January, volunteers are confident that last years’ total of 7600 coats will be easily surpassed.
