Henderson Previews Sundays fixture and Knights chances in the Challenge Cup.

In a pre match conference conducted this morning York Knights head coach Andrew Henderson looked ahead at both the next round of the challenge cup and Sundays game against Whitehaven.

Starting with the challenge cup, Henderson outlined the challenge that fellow second-division opponents Sheffield Eagles will look to impose on them come the next round . He described Sheffield as being a great team and outlined the fact that they have a “proud history” in the challenge cup . He added that he believes his opponents possess “real quality” but is confident enough in his squad to the point where he believes they will be the ones to progress further in the competition.

When asked about his teams chances on Sunday against a team that has “everything to play for” at the bottom of the table he stated that “the pressure is on us”. He went on to elaborate that Whitehaven have nothing to lose and everything to gain from Sundays fixture . Despite all of the pressure being on his side he believed they would prevail stating “ I’m confident in our quality”.

When queried on who he believes Sundays standout star from his side can be , the head coach was full of praise for Joe Brown who has had to be versatile as of late playing in an unfamiliar position but did so with ease . He also stated that Brown has created ‘real’ competition for Matty Marsh’s position which he believed to be important and would keep him ‘on his toes’ so to speak.

York currently sit 4th in the RFL championship and look to be in good form after their last league fixture ended with them being 40-0 winners against Swinton Lions. Promotion could well and truly be on the cards this season if they keep this form. Henderson also stated that he is looking into a signing from a super league club on loan but did not name who or the club in question .
