The first series of House of the Dragon, a prequel to Game of Thrones, came to an end last night – to lots of reaction online.
The series has attracted a huge viewership, averaging 29 million viewers an episode for the first half of the season.
Game of Thrones’ final season in 2020 earned much criticism, however the reaction to House of the Dragon online has been overwhelmingly positive.
As the episode aired, it once again became a trending topic on twitter, with a number of viewers heaping praise on Emma D’Arcy, who has played Rhaenyra since episode five.
Others were left “traumatized” by the finale, titled ‘The Black Queen’.
A number of viewers used memes to express their disappointment at the end of the series and the long wait until its return in 2024.
If Twitter is to be trusted, then House of the Dragon looks to have been a great success for HBO.
