Chelsea to extend their winning streak after Champions League disappointment

After conceding three goals against Wolfsburg in the Champions League, Chelsea Women are aiming to bounce back with a victory against WSL bottom third Leicester Women on Saturday.

It may seem like the title defenders are up to an easy task. Leicester is yet to win a game in this seasons WSL. Jonathan Morgan’s side have struggled so far and lost the first four games of the season, but LCFC will not be feared the title defenders from London.

Speaking during Thursday press conference, defender Sam Tierney told the official website that her team will do its best against Chelsea on Saturday.

She said: “I think one of the biggest messages is just to be fearless. There’s all the different context around the game. You can’t deny the quality of the players that they’ve got and the experience they’ve had in this league.”

The Foxes will remain without Lechante Paul for the trip to the capital city. Young midfielder Mackenzie Smith is also unpickable because of international duty with England Under-17s.

Chelsea, meanwhile, might just extend their three-game winning run in the WSL and keep track with London rival Arsenal at the top of the league. Emma Haynes’ side was disappointing with Wednesday’s draw against Germany outfit Wolfsburg in the Champions League, having conceded three goals, but are ready to bounce back against at Kingsmeadow this Saturday.

There are no new injury concerns in Emma Haynes’ Chelsea. Right back Nimph Charles, who had a positive impact coming off the bench against Wolfsburg, is a big contender for the starting 11.
