Cammish bounces back

Dan Cammish made a strong return in the Kwik Fit British Touring Car
Championship. After a disappointing single points finish in the first race at
Donington Park, the Yorkshireman made three top ten finishes at Brands Hatch
Indy Circuit. The first week struggles where caused by a fire which made the race
extremely challenging for Cammish but three weeks later he has firmly made his
stamp in the tournament.

Saturday’s qualifying session was required to begin with and Cammish earnt
himself a solid eighth position on the grid for the first race on Sunday. However,
after a beautiful day of sunshine on Saturday the weather took a turn for the worst
the following day which had big consequences. All but two cars decided to start
the race on wet tyres.

Cammish made a brilliant start on the 1.21 mile circuit but just fell short on lap two
as Gordon Shedden advanced past him. In the end Cammish finished the race in
third place and secured a spot on the podium for the first time in the tournament.
Race two was even better for Cammish as he finished in an excellent second
place finish. He held his third position until lap ten when a battle with Rory Butcher
of Toyota commenced. Despite the test Butcher gave him, he grinded to second
place and once again was placed on the podium. The third race was a real
struggle for Cammish due to heavy rainfall and he crossed the line in a
respectable tenth place.

Overall, the 33 year old concluded the weekend with 38 points. This was a
significant improvement from the first weekend and with the next stage of the
competition coming up next week, Cammish is hoping more of the same is in stall.
“Race day was great. We had two podiums: a third and a second. I think another
lap I could have won race two and another five laps I could have been quite a way
in the lead. “He later emphasised how good a day it was,
“We’ve got two trophies in the bag, some points, so I can’t ask for much
more.”
