Ben Stokes’ Ashes heroics at Headingley shortlisted for BBC’s Sporting Moment of the Year

By Jamie Heron

A local sports journalist has claimed that Ben Stokes’ heroic innings in the third test of The Ashes at Headingley Stadium this summer has re-ignited the life of cricket in Yorkshire.

Soon to play for the Yorkshire-based Northern Superchargers, Ben Stokes’ legendary performance has been shortlisted for BBC Sport’s Moment of the Year.

Will Ford, a journalist for Cricket365 who covered The Ashes, claims that Stoke’s heroics was the best live sports moment he’d seen and said: “He embodies exactly what English cricket is all about.”

The award will be announced on Sunday 15th December at this year’s BBC Sports Personality of the Year show.
