Amateur rugby league club Lock Lane set themselves up for dream clash against treble winners Hull KR in the third round of the challenge cup

  • reporter

Lock Lane have found themselves in a position every amateur club would dream of a third round tie against Hull KR in the Challenge cup. This comes after Lock Lane defeated Brighouse RLFC in convincing style with a scoreline of 42-6 away from home in the second round.

No doubt Lock Lane will be in for a massive uphill battle against the best team in the land featuring former Man of steel Mikey Lewis arguably still the best player in the country if not definitely one of the best. However the pressure that Hull KR will face not to lose this game will be enormous whereas Lock Lane have got nothing to lose therefore will be expected to play at full throttle. If Lock Lane can pull off a miracle and defeat the treble winners it will be the biggest upset ever in rugby league however this would take some doing to pull off.

Lock Lane were rewarded with a home draw however they will not be able to play on their pitch as it is not up to league standard  for Hull KR to play on. Therefore the game will be played at the Sewell group craven park the home of Hull KR. Many fans were not happy with the decision and feel like they should have still played locally at either  The One Bor Stadium home of the Castleford Tigers or at Featherstone Rovers. Which would not only mean Lock Lane would still feel they have home advantage but would also mean a huge number of fans locally would be able to come watch who support Castleford Tigers and other local clubs to support a local amateur team.

However for these lads to play on a super league pitch and in a super league stadium against the best players in the country is a dream come true especially for the players in the Lock Lane squad who always dreamt of being a professional which was taken away from them for whatever reason. An excellent achievement from everyone involved with the club to get this far and to be able to show their skill against the best.

Lock Lane are a club who supply many super league clubs with huge talent many top players have come through at lane such as Paul Anderson, Gareth Ellis, Greg Eden, Ben Crooks and Riley Lumb to name a few. However there is one notable name that will come up as young winger Noah Booth for Hull KR came through at Lock Lane also a man that will be so excited to play in this fixture.

The game will take place on Friday the 6th of February at Hull KR so make sure you tune in to watch the spectacle unfold. Will there be an upset or will Hull KR start as they mean to go on?

What do you think?
