A man in his thirties was airlifted to Leeds General Infirmary following a collision between a JCB with a trailer and a dustbin lorry on the A64 near Tadcaster.
North Yorkshire Police were called to the incident near John Smith’s Brewery at 11:50 am today.
The fire brigade were called to cut the casualty from his vehicle before he was flown to Leeds General Infirmary where he is undergoing treatment.
Two other casualties were taken from the scene by land ambulance.
It took four fire engines, a heavy rescue unit and a hydraulic platform over an hour to extract the seriously injured man from the dustbin lorry’s crumpled cab.
He was then taken to Leeds General Infirmary where he is being treated for serious injuries including leg injuries.
The eastbound carriageway is completely blocked for the foreseeable future whilst the incident is cleared.
