DONCASTER RACING TALENT BOUND FOR WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP DEBUT

Motor racing prospect and Doncaster youngster, Scott Ogden will this year make the step into the highly competitive Moto3 World Championship, becoming the first Doncaster born rider to line up on a grand prix grid since Tony Rogers in 1982.

The 18-year-old is on course to compete within the all new and British-focused VisionTrack Honda Racing squad, alongside fellow rookie, Josh Whatley.

Ogden said: “I can’t explain how excited I am, I’m really looking forward to it. It’s obviously going to be difficult for me, but there’s no better way to improve than by learning from the best riders in the world.

“I haven’t had much time to process it all. As soon as last season finished, I got straight back to training to make sure I’m both physically and mentally prepared. I’m sure when I arrive in Qatar it will start to feel real.”

The team, founded by former MotoGP rider, Michael Laverty, aims to provide young riders with the opportunity to showcase their potential on a global scale, expanding Britain’s presence on the world stage in the process.

“I can’t explain how excited I am. Michael is such a smart guy and the perfect team owner. He’s done a lot over his career which means he knows what works and what doesn’t.”

Over recent years, Ogden has performed strongly under the observant eye of Laverty, after first being introduced to him in 2017 while competing in the British GP3 Superteens Championship.

In 2018, he was amongst the first haul of riders selected to compete in the British Talent Cup, finishing 9th in the standings overall.

Ogden secured the championship crown the following year, accumulating a total of 10 podium finishes throughout the course of 12 races, three of which being victories.

Having demonstrated great potential on British soil, he was soon selected to compete within the 2020 Junior World Championship and RedBull Rookies Cup, making that his first real taste of international competition.

Racing against some of the fastest teenagers in the world, Ogden adapted quickly and showcased continuous improvement throughout the year.

His promising performance as the year went on, earned him a ride with the reputable Aspar Team for 2021, in conjunction with a second season of competition in the RedBull Rookies Cup.

A breakthrough victory during the sixth round of his 2021 Junior World Championship campaign further validated the young star’s potential, and with that came the game changing offer to join the VisionTrack Moto3 Team for 2022.

Ogden said: “The timing of it all couldn’t have been more perfect. I took the win in Jerez and got the news about the VisionTrack team just one week after. They’ve really helped me accomplish a big goal of mine.”

2022 will without question be a big leap up the ladder for Ogden. However, while he’s under no illusion that the season will be an easy task, the youngster remains mindfully optimistic in preparation.

He said: “Over the 6 years that I’ve been racing on tarmac, the longest season I’ve had was 16 rounds long and that was across 2 championships. So, to jump to a 21-race schedule across 16 different countries is just mind blowing to me.

“I don’t expect to win at the first round. In terms of lap times, the other riders may not be much faster, but their experience will give them an advantage.

“All being said I think me, and the team can surprise a lot of people towards the end of the year. If we can slowly improve our results throughout the year and get a podium, that would a dream first season.

“I’ll try my best to get some good results for everyone back home.”
