Women are being encouraged to get on their bikes after Tour de Yorkshire success

By Lina Arshad

Bradford women are being encouraged to take up cycling by attending an event today with special guests, hosted by Healthy Life Cycles.

The Women in Cycling conference is being held today at the Dubrovnik Hotel until 5pm with attendees including Tour De Yorkshire champion Lizzie Deignan, Jools Walker the Velo City Cycle blogger and cycling groups such as Queensbury Queens of the Mountain.

Nicole Stott, a trustee from Healthy Life Cycles said: “The main aim of the conference is to inspire more women to cycle more often to more places and having a space to bring women together and bring ideas together and overcome barriers.”

The conference will give attendees a chance to look at new cycling developments, to celebrate and share experiences and to develop new local, national and regional networks.

There will also be lunchtime activities being held in Lister Park including Bicycle Ballet warm-ups, led rides around the park and opportunities to try out adapted and electric bikes.

Ms Stott emphasised that the turnout so far had been a success, and hopes this will further inspire more women to take up the sport.

She said: “We’ve had great enthusiasm from the start.

“Today we have over 100 women coming together which is just brilliant but everybody who has taken a part and leading role in this activity has just wanted to get involved and support it anyway they can.”

Olympic medalist, Lizzie Deignan is expected to address the meeting around lunchtime.
