Sunshine Sam: Leeds family’s campaign to get life changing treatment for 4-year-old with Cerebral Palsy

by Abbey Maclure

A family in Leeds have launched a £70,000 fundraising campaign to get life-changing treatment for their son in America.

Four-year-old Sam Mitchell, from Colton, was born two months prematurely and left fighting for his life.

Sam suffered brain damage and has Spastic Hemiplegic Cerebal Palsy, a condition which effects his whole right side.

The family hope that having the two operations will mean that Sam has more ability and less pain as he grows older.

The money raised will cover the cost of surgery, flights and accommodation – the family will have to stay in America for at least a month after the operation while Sam undergoes intense physiotherapy.
